Becoming an Effective Manager

The Grand Quest is fully inclusive of  7 sessions with your Guide and your peer cohort, a custom workbook, office hours, an accountability partner, and learning resources.

Each session is 2 hours long and there are a total of 7 sessions. All sessions meet over Zoom. The Grand Quest is fully remote and open to applicants from all over the world.

Curriculum overview

Session 1
Introduction to management

The first session is a deep dive into what management is and the difference between management versus leadership. We’ll also focus on defining guiding principles for management best practices.

Session 2
Making feedback less painful and more meaningful

Giving and receiving feedback is one of the biggest challenges we see in management. This session will provide participants frameworks for giving and receiving both negative and positive feedback so that it becomes second nature.

Session 3
Uncovering your blindspots

This session is designed to help participants better understand their current management style and uncover blind spots through the DISC assessment. The entire team will map their assessments to foster more empathy and create action plans for the future.

Session 4
Creating psychological safety

In order to help direct reports thrive, managers need to lay the groundwork to create psychological safety. We’ll discuss how to achieve this through the Gallup Survey, 1:1s, and more.

Session 5
Working together — a roadmap

As a team grows, it becomes ever more important to work together seamlessly and efficiently. This session is designed to create user guides, focus on task relevant maturity and define delegation tactics.

Session 6
Communication style and coaching best practices

All participants will walk out with concrete ways that you can improve communication skills as a manager. Learn coaching best practices including empathetic listening and asking open and honest questions.

Session 7
The Grand Quest management dashboard

In our final session, participants will make a committment to uplevel their management skills, hone their user guides, and share their challenges and appreciations.

Meet your facilitators

Born in Miami as the daughter of Cuban-Greek immigrants, I witnessed early on the courage and resilience needed to go after a better life. I packed those lessons with me when I migrated to Barcelona on a solo one-way ticket. Along my journey, I took on many passion-lead jobs including small-business owner, jeweler, photographer, voice-over artist, and co-founder of an e-learning SaaS platform.

After seven years of building my career and community abroad, I took on my next adventure moving to San Francisco to open Typeform’s first US office. While in the US, I have held leadership roles in two hyper-growth tech startups where I built and operationalized teams from scratch.

As an alumni of the original cohort of The Grand Quest, I benefited from its community and curriculum when pivoting my career (yet again) and transitioning to a working mamá bear.

I've always been a romantic, creative, and intensely curious person. As an immigrant, I wanted more than anything to "fit in" and "make it" in the United States. Through The Grand Quest, I got back to my roots and started exploring what an authentic life looks like. I'm still on that journey!

I've spent the last decade working in technology as a marketing and product management leader at Microsoft, Dropbox, and Oscar Health. I'm now a leadership coach and facilitator, partnering with incredible leaders who want to achieve big things without forgetting what matters.

I live in New York City with my partner and two pups (Dug and Remy), and we're slowly but surely building a new home in the woods. I love swing dance, jazz, art & architecture, enabling romance, and learning just about anything.
